Forging strong relations between Western Australia and Germany for years to come
On 12 and 13 August 2022 Mr Volkmar Klein MdB, a member of the German Parliament and the Co-Chair of the German-Australian Friendship Group visited Perth. The visit to Perth was jointly organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and WAGBA Committee Member Torsten Ketelsen OAM. On this occasion Sabine Winton MLA, Chair of the West- Australian-German parliamentary friendship group, invited representatives of the West Australian-German Business Association (WAGBA) along with the two parliamentarians Ms Jessica Shaw MLA and Mr Simon Milman MLA to Parliament House.
The event was opened with a warm welcome by Michelle Roberts MLA, Speaker of the House, followed by discussions around joint values between Western Australia and Germany. Mr Volkmar Klein MdB gave a key note
speech about the situation around the invasion of Russia into Ukraine and the actual energy crisis which affects all of Europe.
A significant part of the discussion was championed by talks of the compelling business opportunities in Western Australia resulting from the vast Australian natural resources (including renewable energies) and German high-end technologies in industries such as mining, mineral processing, hydrogen, circular economy, and defence.
WAGBA would like to extend its gratitude to the WA Parliament for hosting such meaningful event, to Mr Volkmar Klein MdB and all the attending guests for their contributions. We look forward to the next upcoming WA-German friendship group gatherings which strengthen the relationship between Western Australia and Germany for years to come.
