Honouring the Outstanding Achievements Young German Language Learners
Another year, another celebration of the bright young children who are on their German language learning journey. The “DAS Exam” (Deutsch Australisches Sprach Examen) has been offered to students for around 60 years. It is part of the WAGBA cultural support program. As such the “DAS Exam” is supported by the Association financially and by means of contribution to the annual award ceremonies.
On 24th October WAGBA had the pleasure to join the celebrations of the success of young children in Western Australia, as the recipients of the first, second, and third prize winners were awarded for their outstanding performance in German language learning. The event was held at the Rhein Donau Club in Myaree and attended by around 130 students ranging from Years 5 to 8, their parents, and their teachers in the Perth metropolitan area. WAGBA Committee Member Elke Kirsch and WAGBA President Stephan W Kirsch were also graciously invited to the award ceremony.
The event was organised and hosted by TAGWA (Teachers' Association of German in Western Australia) and proudly supported by the Department of Education, the Rhein Donau Club, the Honorary Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany and the West Australian-German Business Association.
Speeches by the Hon. Sabine Winton MLA, Minister for Early Childhood Education, Child Protection, Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence, and Community Services; Dr. Gabriele Maluga, Honorary Consul of The Federal Republic of Germany; and President Stephan Kirsch, outlined the importance of learning foreign languages as a vehicle for bi-lingual bonding, cultural integration, understanding and creation of common values and many more aspects for both social life and personal development.
The incredible atmosphere amongst all students, their families, teachers, and other guests in the celebration of the students’ achievements was a wonderful testament to the efforts to promote German language learning at participating schools. WAGBA looks forward to celebrating the achievements of the next batch of the outstanding students in 2024!
