Keeping German Language in WA Classrooms
WAGBA is delighted to be included as part of the discussion initiated by Sabine Winton MLA, WA Minister for Education on Thursday, 12 June. The meeting brought together German language educators across all levels—primary, secondary and tertiary—as well as representatives from organisations including WAGBA, SAGSE, TAGWA, and the Goethe Society.

Bobby Spicer’s Unforgettable Exchange Experience in Germany
As part of WAGBA’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between Western Australia and Germany, the association proudly supports education programs such as the student exchange program hosted by SAGSE. Through this initiative, students’ families are given the incredible opportunity to host a German student here in Perth, and later immerse themselves in German culture, live with host families, and experience life abroad firsthand. One such student, Bobby, had the privilege of participating in such an enriching exchange. Bobby was kind enough to write a thank you letter, as he shares his unforgettable experience in Germany, from navigating a new school system and embracing festive traditions to skiing in the Austrian Alps and indulging in iconic German cuisine.

An Interview with Ralf Rauker and Karin Tramp-Lutz
Melville's Wireless Hill stands as a symbol for our enduring human drive to communicate and connect. Long before modern technology, the Whadjuk Noongar people recognized the hill's vantage point, calling it Yagan Geninny—the long-necked turtle looking.
More recently, in 1912, the German Company Telefunken established the technology for the first wireless transmission from Wireless Hill to London.
German theatre artist Ralf and Japanese musician Sanshi each have personal stories that connect them with Wireless Hill and its history. As performing artists, they want to share this experience with an audience by presenting "The Caller," a performance commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe on May 8th, 2025.

A Golden Start to 2025
WAGBA’s 2025 was ‘minted’ with a New Year’s Reception held at the Perth Mint on 12th February. The reception provided an outstanding opportunity for some 70 attendees to mingle, network and kickstart 2025 in style.
